A place to thrive
Our aim is to bring more joy to education and ignite children’s imaginations so they are stimulated to discover meaningful passions of their own and develop a true desire for learning.
The Green School way allows young people to thrive by learning in a purposeful manner. Learning how to be a changemaker and have a positive impact on the world sparks a passion for learning and turns it from a chore, into a desire.
We empower young people to become happy, excited, lifelong learners within a future-focused curriculum that advocates sustainable impact.
A campus for
Our home is the community of Taranaki, New Zealand. We have secured a magical site on Koru Road, protected by the Kaitake Ranges, next to the beautiful Oakura River, and situated between Mt Taranaki and the Tasman Sea. It is a majestic site for inspired learning.
With the lightest of touches, we are transforming a 60-hectare farm into a place of deep learning for years 1 to 13.
A school that
The Green School environment opens minds in ways no concrete box ever will. Beyond mastering mathematics and literacy, our students will learn to think like innovative and creative entrepreneurs and changemakers, through student-guided, hands-on projects.
Connected richly to the natural environment, students will also be exposed to Māori history and cultural values that will be intertwined into the spirit of the school.
A school led by
Green School New Zealand will be led by Chris Edwards, an inspiring educator with more than three decades of teaching experience across Australia, Southeast Asia, South America and Europe. Most recently, Chris was the head of UWC South East Asia, using the power of education to transform the lives of thousands of students under his guidance.
Michael and Rachel are respected business and community leaders in Taranaki with a love for education and community. Having witnessed first-hand the life-changing impact a Green School education had on their own children in Bali, their dream to bring it to the families of Taranaki and New Zealand has now become a reality.
A school committed
Driven by John Hardy, founder of the Green School movement, our school threads sustainability through the learning environment, curriculum and co-curricular activities. We have one of New Zealand’s largest reforestation projects happening on campus. At every year level we have hands-on programmes to make students more aware of the world’s sustainability challenges and how they can make a difference.
Led by the example of Green School Bali and the success of student-led initiatives such as Bye Bye Plastic Bags, we will fund and support the ambitions of students to ensure together, we make a positive impact on the environment.
