Sustainable Solutions: From the Ground Up, co-hosted by Green School (Bali) and the United Nations Office for REDD+ Coordination in Indonesia (UNORCID), was a great success. Over 500 people attended the event this past weekend and 70% of guests were local community members and students. We were pleased to offer all workshops and speaker sessions in dual language.

Day 1 kicked off with Project Pitch Presentations, which were delivered by youth and local organizations, leaving people inspired by the solution seeking green initiatives around the island. The night closed with a screening of the film Planetary, setting the tone for day 2 – we are the solution.

On Sunday, Day 2, attendees built their own schedule as they choose which sessions and activities to attend. A compelling speaker series featured local and international stakeholders discussing sustainable development within the areas of Food, Energy and Waste.

Attendees also packed the rooms of the 13 sustainable living workshops that were offered throughout the day. GS parent, Peter Barge, grew a crowd of nearly 60 people in his ‘Aquaponics’ workshop, while Duncan McKee, GS teacher, conducted a Bambajam performance with all local students.

During mid-day all were surprised when the BBPB team appeared in the Heart of School to perform a flash mob dance.

The Solutions Showcase, open both days, featured local organisations and students, showcasing their environmentally responsible products, initiatives, alternative services and projects. Solution Providers included Big Tree Farms, Little Tree, Biowear, Reef Check Indonesia, Lengis Hijau, Cash for Trash, Luba’s Bee Education Project, the Green School student Bio-bus team , and nearly 50 more inspiring vendors.

The weekend was closed with music by Rizal and GedeRobi of Navicula, who drives social change by delivering powerful messages of activism through music. We are so proud to have been a part of such an inspiring group of pioneers and we hope to continue to encourage movements alike in pursuit of a more sustainable future.

Thank you to all of those speakers and vendors who were apart of this event as well as all of those who attended the weekend – we hope you were left as inspired and energized as we were.
