Students set the stage with stories of Galungan<\/h1>\n

\"02\"
\nGalungan marks the beginning of one of the most important recurring religious ceremonies in Bali. The spirits of deceased relatives, return to their former homes for a visit and it is the current inhabitants of their homes that have the responsibility of being hospitable to them, through prayers and offerings. The most obvious sign of the celebrations are the penjors – bamboo poles with offerings suspended at the end. These are erected in front of each family’s home and can be seen lining the roads of Bali. The days leading up to Galungan and those that come after, are all marked by their own names and with the organisation of particular activities, commencing with the celebration of Kuningan and the start of a new year.<\/p>\n
