The spirits of deceased relatives, return to their former homes for a visit and it is the current inhabitants of their homes that have the responsibility of being hospitable to them, through prayers and offerings. The most obvious sign of the celebrations are the penjors &#8211; bamboo poles with offerings suspended at the end. These are erected in front of each family&#8217;s home and can be seen lining the roads of Bali.
