“Our comprehensive Physical Well-Being and Sports Programs inspire students to cultivate motivation, confidence, and competency in various sports and activities. Programs are crafted to nurture holistic student growth, fostering physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development.”

PATRICK GOODMAN – SPORT AND PHYSICAL WELL-BEING LEAD

Our development pathway is divided into 4 phases. We believe that Physical Well-Being is a lifelong process, and our program of study reflects age appropriate continuum of topics, skills, attitudes and beliefs that aim to foster the skills for students to be responsible stewards of their own physical well-being.

FOUNDATION PHASE

Fundamental motor skills (FMSY) and yoga help our youngest students explore, improve concentration, increase awareness, and regulate emotions. Alongside numerous physical benefits such as increased flexibility, balance, and strength.

DEVELOPMENT PHASE

Fun, skill-based activities that develop sport-specific and fundamental movement skills. These experiences develop the ability and confidence needed to take part in sports. Ball mastery and hand/foot-eye coordination are practised which is an essential component in order to be confident in the competitive phase.

COMPETITIVE PHASE

Competition-focused activities that develop the skills, confidence and knowledge needed to compete. These experiences include sport-specific skills and an understanding of rules, tactics and strategies through gameplay. This phase is commonly found in Upper School. Sport Education and Teaching Games for Understanding (TGFU) approaches to learning are often used to provide students with competitive experiences whilst improving their teamwork, leadership, coaching and disciplinary skills.

EXCELLENCE PHASE

Performance-focused activities to develop skills and understanding in a variety of competitive conditions. These experiences focus on commitment and competitive success whilst staying true to the demonstration of great character and a love of the sport. This phase can be achieved within a school setting; however, often, students with excellent performance have put in many hours of practice outside of school hours through the Further Sports Program or sports clubs.
