Green School, Bali-Indonesia

Is that an illusion or really David Copperfield?

Green School was host to the world famous David Copperfield recently. David had a great time exploring the campus and enjoying the Mepantigan performance.  He shared with us a couple of thoughts.

"My job is to create wonder in people.  The unfortunate thing is that it's very rare for me to feel that same feeling of wonder.  Well, thank you.  Green School both architecturally, as well as your important mission... inspires and astonishes.

"To look out over the luscious terrain of Bali is without question breathtaking... hard to match when looking into a manmade structure.  You've accomplished a spectacular piece of visual magic with your Heart of School building.  In its own way, it's as breathtaking as the nature that surrounds it."

  Thanks David.

Life Changing Experience

On site for four days are the top three team winners (out of 200 nation-wide senior public high school contestants) of the British Council Climate Challenge - a competition for schools to create practical roll-out entrepreneurial projects which support environmental protection efforts. Twelve students and their teachers are having a 'life changing experience' (their words) at Green School, learning hands-on habits to take back to their communities. The winning teams are from West Java, East Java, and Bali - their awards were presented at a ceremony in Jakarta attended by HM British Ambassador, Dr Amanda Katili (leading Indonesia's task force on climate change), the British Council's Director of Projects, and Green School's Director.

Doctor on Campus

As part of our drive to increase the student and green school community experience of Green School, Ron Stones is delighted to announce the appointment of a School Doctor. Ating Solihin MD graduated as a medical doctor from the University of Gadjah Madah (Yogyakarta) in 1989. He went on to study for a Master's in Public Health at The University of North Carolina.

He brings a wealth of experience in the field serving as medical officer in the U.S., and in working with international organizations in Indonesia in Lombok, Flores and Irian Jaya. He has been an on-site doctor, refugee doctor, and flying doctor in natural disasters and conflicts in the Indonesian provinces. Ating is passionate about the environment and is very pleased to be joining the Green School team and supporting our aims. This is a great appointment for Green School.

More Bamboo Buildings

Additional classrooms have been under construction to accommodate growth in student enrolment and the development into specialist subject as Green School extends its age range into secondary education in courses working towards the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).

Getting Ready for Business

Green School's professional staff have spent the past two weeks finalizing preparations for the year ahead. Incoming Principal, Andrew Dalton, together with seven incoming teachers have been immersing themselves into the green culture of our amazing pioneering project in education.
