FAQs: Curriculum
I have heard that this is a Waldorf/Rudolf Steiner school. Is that correct?
No. Green School is heavily influenced by the work of Rudolph Steiner and practices a holistic approach to education, but it is not a Waldorf or Steiner school.
Is the Green School curriculum model used in other schools?
Elements of our models have been used and are well-proven in other schools. However, we believe our particular combination of these elements is unique: the Steiner influences, the IB framework, Cambridge IGCSE's and a holistic approach combined with experiential learning.
Is the curriculum compatible with other educational systems?
Yes. Careful detail went into the planning of the curriculum to be compatible, and in harmony with, international educational systems. In our upper grades, we pursue Cambridge IGCSE's & intend to pursue validation of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. The IB offers high quality programs for international education to a worldwide community of schools. There are more than 580,000 IB students enrolled in over 2,000 schools in 125 countries worldwide.
What languages are offered at the School?
Classes are taught in English and all primary students also learn Bahasa Indonesian. Secondary school (Grade 6 - Grade 9) students can choose between Bahasa Indonesian and German.
I've heard that Green School is an alternative school. Is this true?
No. Although it's fair to say that Green School doesn't look like any other school you have ever seen, our students learn within a rigorous curriculum that encompasses all traditional academic subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Foreign Languages, etc. The difference at Green School is that our students have the opportunity to apply their classroom learning to real life through our extraordinary campus and our Green School curriculum. Their academic education is wrapped in a rich layer of experiential learning through the various environmental and entrepreneurial projects that are part of the Green School community. We strive to be an inclusive learning environment and we are able to offer support to students with different learning styles so that every child has the best chance of succeeding, but we are not an alternative school.
Is Green School academically rigorous?
Yes. Green School is much more than just a beautiful environment with talented teachers. We have Cambridge IGCSEs and are in planning for accreditation from the International Baccalaureate Organization. IB schools are recognized and respected around the world for their academic rigor and high levels of achievement. In our initial contact with the regional IB accreditation office, they were so excited with Green School that they have offered to mentor the school through the accreditation process. Our holistic approach to learning ensures that all aspects of a student's humanity is nurtured and challenged, and our teachers understand that different students learn in different ways, so lessons are geared towards the concept of multiple intelligences. We expect students who graduate from Green School to be academically prepared to attend the best universities anywhere in the world.
After graduating from Green School, where can my child continue her/his study?
Year 2009/10 has classes from Nursery to Grade Nine. In future years Grade Nine will matriculate up to Grade 12 with an intended IB Certificate/Diploma. IB is an excellent qualification for entry into good Universities across the world.
