We are looking for help not only with scholarships, but with a wide array of projects that will enhance not only the lives of our students, parents, faculty and staff, but, in keeping with our holistic and regenerative approach, the Balinese communities that surround our campus. The bridges spanning the Ayung River connect us in literal ways, but they also serve as metaphors for our desire and need to reach out to our neighbors in ways that provide important learning opportunities for our students and concrete recognition of those whose lands and houses border the School's.

Several of these initiatives will unfold at the Learning Village, the locus on campus which will support projects that afford our students critical opportunities to learn and practice a wide range of entrepreneurial skills with the guidance of some of the best practitioners in the field. The profits from these businesses will go both toward scholarships at the School and support environmental causes in our local community.

Other areas for which we are seeking funding involve important environmental initiatives that concretely benefit our campus and the communities that border it as well as future generations on the earth.

The third set of projects that require funding primarily concern our commitment to building a strong relationship to the communities that surround us and to supporting Balinese culture in as respectful and thoughtful a way as we can.

The final funding opportunities concern the development of exchange programs with schools around the world that share our interests and concerns as well as with the growth of scholarship funds that will make it possible for children from Bali and around the world to attend the School.

What all of these plans share, however, is our desire to provide our students with the chance to blend pragmatic learning with a holistic approach which allows them to have an authentic experience that expands and enriches their notion of what it is to be an educated individual.

Help Us Build the Heart of School

It’s hard work building a school. It takes dedicated teachers, involved parents, engaged students, plus loads of people working behind the scenes. At Green School it also takes a lot of bamboo.

Our most ambitious building project is called Heart of School. The three interconnected spirals that encompass the building will stand over 20 meters high. It will be Bali’s largest bamboo structure and quite likely it’s most beautiful as well. Heart of School will house our library, computer room, meeting spaces and offices. The foundation is dug and we are about to start building upwards.

Now is your chance to literally help us build Heart of School.

Heart of School’s design calls for 2,630 bamboo poles and we are inviting our friends to contribute a pole to this project. Dozens of visitors to Green School have already donated bamboo and we have marked each gift by carving the donor’s name on the pole. Some of our donors have elected to memorialize a loved one or a famous historical figure instead and we encourage you to think about this option as well.

For US$25 we’ll carve your name on a bamboo tali that will become part of our roof structure. For US$100 we’ll do the same in bamboo petung, the strongest bamboo native to Indonesia. Those contributing US$250 will have their name carved into one of the larger structural petung beams – your gift will truly support the school! For US$500 donors will have their name carved into rare petung hitam – black bamboo that will accentuate the natural beauty of Heart of School.

Please consider a gift and joining others who share a deep respect for holistic education, environmental sustainability, Balinese culture and natural beauty. Email us today at info@greenschool.org and we’ll start carving right away!
